A little bit about Yogi Bhajan…

Yogi Bhajan was born Harbhajan Singh Puri in India on August 26, 1929.  He became a Kundalini Yoga Master at the age of 16  ½ .  Prior to 1969, Kundalini Yoga had never been taught publically.  It was said that anyone who dared to teach publically would most likely not live to see their next birthday.  On January 5 1969, Yogi Bhajan became the first to bring Kundalini Yoga teachings to the public when he gave a lecture at a Los Angeles high school gymnasium.  He broke the trend of secrecy because he believed that the thousands of young people attempting to expand their consciousness with drugs were perhaps ready for an alternative.   Although a beloved teacher to many, Yogi Bhajan said of his role “I’ve come to train teachers, not to get disciples.”  His message was one of hope and inspiration for all.  The mantra he lived by:  “If you can’t see God in all, you can’t see God at all.”

Yogi Bhajan believed that healthy, happy, holy Women were the key to a healthy, happy, holy world.  He placed great importance on Women and their role in the changing days to come.

A few favorite quotes from Yogi Bhajan regarding Women:

“You must, in your own mind, understand that you are the keeper of your own grace, your own character, your own commitment, your own standard.”

“Woman is the molder.   You are the molder of time, space, and of man:  the man of tomorrow, the child; the man of today, the husband; and the men of yesterday; the ancestors.   The entire society, in theory and reality, is based on the spirit of woman.”

“I believe that so long as those born of women do not respect women, there shall be no peace on Earth.”

“I want women to be strong.  I am a believer that when a woman falls, generations fall; when a man falls, an individual falls.  Who is doing it to you?  WOMAN is doing to woman.  A woman who cannot defend her daughter, a woman who cannot defend her dignity, a woman who cannot defend her self -that is who is doing it.”

“Never trust that there is a limit to your compassion. Never trust that there is a limit to your kindness. Never trust that there is a limit to your capacity.”

“In a country where woman is insecure, she will give birth to insecure children, which will grow into insecure men and this will make the nation insecure. Security of the woman is the security of the nation.”

“To be very honest, if you want to assess society truthfully, woman is not considered to be a full citizen.  Even in marriage men normally do not feel it is a privilege to have a strong woman behind them.  Instead, they relate to her as a servant or a piece of property….  As long as humanity does not learn to respect the woman, there will be no peace on this Earth.  There will be war always.  In our society, woman is used as a tool of the advertising industry; her sexuality is exploited to sell…she is being exploited in millions of ways which she doesn’t even know about. The most graceful being on this planet is treated disgracefully as a playmate, as a sexual toy.  So, a woman can walk one of two roads:  the road of the chick or the road of the eagle… Your only saving factor is to put around yourself the strongest radiance as a woman.  Let nothing exploit you.”

“One thing every woman should know:  SHOW NO INSECURITY.  This is the key to royalty.”

“Only a woman with self-respect can produce saints, heroes, and givers.”

“You are the Grace of God.”

About Men and Women

“God has given you sixteen times more courage and more comprehensive biological physical strength than a man.  Have pity on this guy!  He doesn’t have all of your biochemical action, doesn’t have the mental lunar reflection, doesn’t have the sophistication and softness and doesn’t have the nervous system to deal with it, and he’s still alive!”

“You must understand that woman is much sharper then a male.  No woman needs counseling.  Her nature is to resist advice.  If you want to annoy a woman, counsel her.”

“She also gets more angry then a man.  A creature which can turn its blood to milk to nourish its offspring can do everything else also.  A child can make a man crazy in ten minutes and not disturb a woman in twenty hours.  The faculty of a woman also extends to mental and spiritual realms.  She has an inborn capacity to tackle everything.  She lives in the center of her being.”

“Life leaves imprints on a woman.  A lot of men try to use women as a toothpaste tube.  They want her to be available when they want her, and when they are tired of her they replace her with a new one.  A woman should understand her security before she indulges in relationships with men because all temporary relationships are very deeply imprinted on women. Men don’t have that faculty, they are not affected the same way.”

“You must win freedom and your right to be recognized as human.  You cannot be paid less than a man, you cannot be denied opportunities because you happen to be a woman.  I am not asking you to become tomboys, but I am telling you that the grace of woman demands to be treated nicely.  She is the better half.  If somebody opens the door for her it is no tragedy.  It is a male courtesy to his own grace…I am not asking you to become feminists, but to be very graceful, absolute women.”

(NaturalNews) In a study just published in the journal Psycho-Oncology, researchers conclude they’ve found a treatment that resulted in a 50% reduction in depression and a 12% increase in feelings of peace and meaning in women with breast cancer. The successful treatment isn’t a new type of anti-depressant or anti-anxiety drug. In fact, it isn’t a drug at all — it’s the ancient healing and exercise system known as yoga.

Wake Forest University School of Medicine scientists conducted a randomized study of 44 women, all with breast cancer; 34% were actively undergoing cancer treatment such as chemotherapy while the rest of the majority had already completed therapy. Half took a ten week program of 75 minute Restorative Yoga (RY) classes and half were in the waitlist control group. RY is a gentle type of yoga similar to other forms of yoga classes that gently moves the spine in all directions. Blankets, cushions, bolsters, and any other needed props provide support that results in deep relaxation with minimal physical exertion, allowing people at virtually any level of health to practice yoga more easily.

The women in both groups completed a questionnaire to assess the quality of their lives at the beginning and end of the ten week program. According to the Wake Forest research team, the results showed that the women who had been given the RY classes experienced significantly more benefits than the control group (who were later all invited to participate in identical RY classes).

Specifically, the yoga group was found to have improvements in mental health including depression, positive emotions, and spirituality (defined as feeling calm and peaceful) compared to the control group. In fact, the scientists found that women who started the yoga classes with higher negative emotions and lower emotional well-being experienced the most benefits from the gentle yoga exercises compared to the control group. In addition, while women in the control group did not report a change in their fatigue levels, the women taking yoga classes demonstrated a significant improvement in fatigue symptoms.

“Evidence from systematic reviews of randomized trials is quite strong that mind-body therapies improve mood, quality of life, and treatment-related symptoms in people with cancer. Yoga is one mind-body therapy that is widely available and involves relatively reasonable costs,” Suzanne Danhauer, Ph.D., who headed the Wake Forest University School of Medicine research team, said in a statement to the media. “Given the high levels of stress and distress that many women with breast cancer experience, the opportunity to experience feeling more peaceful and calm in the midst of breast cancer is a significant benefit.”

February 2010 Numerology Forecast
By Nam Hari Kaur Khalsa, California, USA

IKYTAThe month of February spins us into an emotional cavalcade of new opportunities and relationships. If you’re single and lookin’ for love there’s a good chance of meeting someone new who will spark your interest. The catch is (and there’s always a catch!), to not get lured into any type of entanglement that you just got yourself out of last year. With 2009’s emotional debris just off our heels, don’t let yourself leap where angels fear to tread.

The 10 of this year has us feeling robust and ready for excitement and adventure, coupled with an almost cavalier attitude of, “I’m ten feet tall and bulletproof.” You may be ten feet tall in yogic radiance, however the bulletproof part has probably yet to be proven. Even the “faster than a speeding bullet” Mister Superman himself had a vulnerability—Kryptonite! Make sure the emotional lessons of last year have been signed, sealed, and delivered to your heart’s door, or you may find yourself saying, “Damn, why did this happen to me again?”

The good news is there need be no echoing lament of the past, as long as you remember one thing: healthy boundaries. The edge of danger may have its own uniquely exciting pulse and rhythm; just be sure it’s not a piece of karmic Kryptonite that you’re allowing into your precious universe.

We will be experiencing emotional surges of energy that need to be expressed, so physical exercise is essential to remaining balanced. Otherwise the tension and frustration will begin to affect your communication and you may find yourself creating a tempest in a teapot. A stitch in time saves nine, so when the pressure is on, move yourself onto a hiking trail, into Breath of Fire¹, or run up and down a flight of stairs to expel the mental storm. As Yogi Bhajan once said, “Don’t create a sequence for which you cannot bear the consequence.” Simply stated, don’t stir up what you can’t stand to see splattered on the walls later. Life has its dramas and traumas, but you don’t have to involve your energy where it may not be valued. An Aquarian adaptation of a beautiful Bible verse is: “‘Don’t cast your pearls where they won’t shine.”

Now is the time to create a base of energy which will maintain and serve you for the rest of the year. Get the ginger tea brewing for the nervous system and mental clarity, as well as fresh cilantro to cleanse the blood of toxic heavy metals. Just add some to your salad or the next time you’re in the kitchen blending a drink. The number 3 represents food, and touching back to the overall number for this year (2+0+1+0=3), please remember to nourish yourself with healthy food choices, especially green food. Green energy supports our vitality and creativity, nothing would exist on planet Earth without it. When we are healthy and vital, the heart is supported and we are better able to make wise emotional decisions. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, here’s a variation on a bright tune to dance by:

Roses are red,
Violets are true.
When I cherish myself,
I’m never blue.

Kundalini Yoga Woman’s Workshop

“Connect to Your Eternal Power”

2010.01.30 Saturday

@ Shakti Healing Circle

with Charanpal Kaur (Eve)

As women we rely on our intuition and sensitivity to command the Earth. It is through a calm and open heart, a clear meditative & a projective mind, that we can connect Heavens to the Earth and live in grace and nobility.

A woman loses when she competes on the Earth; she wins when she brings the Heavens down to the Earth, for this is her ETERNAL POWER.

A woman is always a woman and a mother, each role has its own capacities and duties. A woman uses her sensitivity not to confront or compete but to bring to zero 0 shuniya – and from that emptiness, through her compassion, her kindness, and her intelligence, she caes the things she wants.

Create Prosperity.

A mother ses her sensitivity to protect, nurture, and support her environments so that anything she applies her creativity to, succeeds.

– Hari Charan Kaur Khalsa “I AM WOMAN” Book

3HO Kundalini Yoga is an extremely potent transformational yogic technology which combines the traditional yogic tools of posture, breath, mudras, mantras, body locks, and deep relaxation into a unique series of yogic kriyas and meditations.

These kriyas are particularly suited to the age we live in and produce real results in a short time, which would take many years of regular Hatha yoga practice to achieve.

Many of those who have been practicing Hatha yoga for a while are now looking for that “ something more”, a deeper connection on all levels, not just the physical. Kundalini yoga fulfills that role.

Kundalini Yoga is for everyBODY regardless of age, flexibility, or experience. But it is a most valuable tool for women to re-connect to their primal creative power. Yogi Bhajan has long been a champion of the power and the grace of women. He has instructed women from all over the world how to use the science of Kundalini Yoga to tap into their vast, natural reservoirs of vitality and radiance. Providing women a path to self-acceptance, empowerment and self-realization.

Yogic Technology offers women specific techniques to maintain health, spirit, and well being. Ranging from diet and exercise to menstruation and pregnancy there is a wealth of information that can lend to a woman’s physical, emotional, and spiritual health. These are practical tools for every woman.

– Increased muscular tone and flexibility

– Corrects posture to allow deep, easy, free flowing breath.

– Resets the navel point and strengthens the lower triangle.

– Strengthens the nervous system

– Balances the glandular secretions of the endocrine system

– Increases Human Radiance and Majesty – the power of projection and protection in the electro- magnetic field, thereby increasing resistance to stress and disease.

– Opens the heart to love and promotes a deep sense of conscious connectivity and trust. Life becomes an easy intuitive flow

– Creates deep relaxation and spontaneous healing.

Above all kundalini yoga, the science of human radiance, is a lot of fun. In each session you will sweat, stretch, laugh, chant, and relax more deeply than ever before, and you will leave feeling Healthy, Happy and Holy for real.

• Wear loose clothing or exercise clothes – white or light colour preferable.

• Bring a natural fiber blanket.

• Lastly, we recommend that you bring a bottle of water to drink for during and after the class.

Meditation to Realize Your Power as a Woman

Sit in Easy Pose.

MUDRA: Place your hands in fists with your first two fingers extended straight up and together. Your ring and small fingers are held down by your thumb.  Raise your right arm straight up in the air, with no bend in the elbow and palm facing forward. Your right arm will be hugging your right ear. Place your left hand across your heart center, lower arm parallel to floor.

EYES: Closed.

MENTAL FOCUS: Make the body into a solid state. Make absolutely no movement, move no muscle. However mentally move your right arm in large circles, without actually physically moving your arm. (The direction of the circles does not matter.)

MUSIC: Rhythms of Gatka Drum tape by Matamandir Singh is played.

TIME: Given in class for about 2 minutes.

COMMENTS: “This meditation can help you to realize the power you have as a woman. If you can make your body physically standardized and have the mental power to cover the standard of it, you can move anything. What is it that moves? Mind over body. It’s a simple development. It’s something you should not forget.

If a female doesn’t know how the mind can conquer and work on a body, she shall never be in a position to work on her own children. You must know how to move an object, and you must know how to convey the subject; and you must know how to move the object and how to convey the subject of the mammal called male. These are the faculties and facilities given a female by God.” ~ Yogi Bhajan

Prosperity Path – The Art of Giving Back

Excerpts from a lecture given by Yogi Bhajan
on October 7, 1974 in Los Angeles, California

Self-healing is the genuine process of the relationship between the physical and the infinite power of the soul. It is from a state of compassion, of compassionate meditation, that the healing activity of God glows within the being. It’s the contact which is a union.

When a person prays, “Oh Lord,” it is not anything beyond you; you are extending outside, but the reaction is happening inside. Action has reaction equal and opposite. You think you are praying to the heavens, but it is you who is changing.

The state of compassion or compassionate meditation is the activity of God in a human wherever he is, whatever he is. It has no color, caste, creed, religion. You say, “My divinity is in my purity, and my purity is what I am within myself.” Sometime just sit down like this and ask yourself, “Am I pure or not?” You are trying to pretend you are not pure.

If you honestly ask yourself, you will be surprised you are pretending to be impure. You are pretending. Why? Because you don’t like
responsibility. You are holy; you don’t want to be known as holy because then everybody has the right to criticize you, and you don’t want to be criticized. Everybody wants to sneak into it and then withdraw, and we still want things to happen. . . .

You think you are praying to the heavens,

but it is you who is changing.

That is why an individual has to understand the self. Understanding the self means to stand under your own self; if you can stand under your own self, you can stand under every time, and then you are a most beloved of God. This is a basic phenomenon of every happiness, of every joy which a person wants to experience. . . .

The body cures itself; medicine helps you to get that help. The same goes for the mind: mind has to be given the medicine—the thought.

Higher thought is the medicine of the mind so that it can help itself cure itself; otherwise mind is a shattered piece of glass. Jaap1 is a higher thought to mind: Sat Nam, Sat Nam, “Truth is Thy Name, Truth is Thy Name.” The moment you know and experience that there is something beyond you, you are connected with something beyond you. It is in thepower of the thoughtwave. . . .

Intellect is everything that is going on. The game of energy and matter is the play of intellect. Intellect gives you thought, thoughtcreates desire, desire makes you work, work gives you an object which subjects you. Whatever is your object, is what you will achieve, and it will subject you. You bring a sofa to sit on; the sofa brings you to sit with it! Every morning you have to clean it, brush it, keep it intact. You make sure people don’t sit with their shoes on it, or that the dogs don’t tear it. Now who is the master, the sofa or you? That dead piece of furniture is your master. The breath of life is the only thing that comes to you without your asking. That is an infinite gift from God. You are slave to everything, except the breath of life. . . .

There is a drama of life. It has to be understood as a drama, watched as a drama, experienced as a drama, so that Dharma* is understood. Dharma is the life of the seeker. Seeker must seek. He must suck the Infinity as the nectar of Divinity. There are no two ways about it. Now it has become a business, “There are many ways to God.” This is a sales pitch. “There are many religions.” This is a sales pitch. There is only one “religion.” “Religion” means religio—to know your origin, join your origin, understand your origin, be your origin. To belong to a religion and not experience the religion is not religious. Neither denying the religion nor accepting the religion means anything; it is the experience which can hold the mind. Experience. It is that desire to experience which matters, not the matter which you are experiencing. Your ego desires that you be finite: you are limited, but you must experience Infinity because you are part of Infinity. . . .

The enlightened soul in every existence and consciousness is “ji.” “Ji” is a very powerful word, such a magnetic word, which can attract, because it has a direct vibration in the soul. . . . The attitude of gratitude is yoga. Ingratitude is “unyoga,” like “uncola.” Where gratitude is, there is yoga. Where there is ingratitude, yoga is gone. That mind which does not live in gratitude is just like a
junkyard. There are great cars there, but they don’t work; they are useless, because they are junk. What are you without gratitude? . . .
Wherever a person of God goes, there is God. With whomever they talk, they bring God. Wherever they sit, there is God. When they get up, there is God around them, above them, under them, God, God, God…If one has experienced God, one has seen God, one has gratitude for God, one has goodness of that Infinity, that person talks all the time, “God, God, God, God, God,” because every lover calls the Beloved by name.
This is the love of a person of God. +

The Numerology of Relationships

By Sangeet Kaur Khalsa

This new millennium ushered in the era where partnerships, and hopefully harmony, comprise the underlying theme. In the last century it was “each man (or woman) for himself.” Now in this new age it is imperative that we learn to work, live, and love together harmoniously.

The month in which you were born reflects the karmic challenges your soul chose to master in this lifetime. Each month has some implications for partnership.

There are needs and strengths in each month. It is our needs that limit us and our strengths that support our aspirations and destiny.
For starters, let’s see how you, your family members, and friends fit the overall karmic monthly profiles.

  • Those born in January are great at doing things on their own, though they may long for it to be otherwise.
  • For February folks, partnership is the big desire, though not easily fulfilled, as the underlying concern is rejection.
  • March souls are light-hearted and love to be liked by many, but may find it hard to feel secure with one person.
  • For those born in April, partnership is preferred but over-thinking can get in the way,
  • while for those born in May it is urgent to keep active and look for a partner who will so inspire them.
  • June folks are all heart and home-centered, but have to be wary not to give their hearts away.
  • July souls really don’t want to be alone but resist anything that looks like control.
  • The August-born are passionate and fiery but sometimes reluctant to show it.
  • September brings strong-willed souls who have to learn when to hold on to relationships and when to let go.
  • October souls can be heroic and charismatic but often find partnership difficult as they prefer to do things their own way.
  • November souls seek a divine attachment and look for a partner to match lofty goals.
  • December folks are goodhearted and giving and sometimes too eager for love.

Now let’s see how these months are influenced by this year’s planetary 9 cycle.

The 9 cycle is bringing out whatever is hidden in all things—the unknown and unseen elements, the truths we may have missed, even the dark side. And the primary target is partnerships. Decision points abound—times to hold on through thick and thin, and times to step away from attachment.

How do you counter this massive influence? Build on the strengths in each karma number (the month you were born).

Here are some yogic tips:

  • January (1) – be true to your soul and chant Ong
  • February (2) – see God in all and relate to the divine partner with Ong Namo
  • March (3) – be light-hearted and for 40 days, at least twice a year chant Kirtan Kriya
  • April (4) – stay neutral and meditate on Guru Ram Das for elevation.
  • May (5) – practice yoga and pranayam daily.
  • June (6) – live with a happy heart and chant Shabad Hazare.
  • July (7) – do yoga sets for the aura and women should do the Grace of God meditation often.
  • August (8) – channel passion upward with Breath of Fire8 and the Kriya for Elevation
  • September (9) – surrender to divine will and chant Wahe Guru Wahe Jio
  • October (10) – gain strength with Sat Kriya and chant Chatara Chakara Vartee
  • November (11) – chant Humee Hum Brahm Hum or We Are God.
  • December (12) – focus your mind positively with Ek Ong Kar Sat Gur Prasad.

No matter what develops, live as the master you came to be. “Keep up, inspire others to keep up, and you’ll be kept up.” So we were given this promise by our beloved Yogi Bhajan and so it shall be.
